P + F: Day One

Luke 18:35-43; Mark 10:46-52

The man on the roadside is blind. The man on the roadside is a beggar, this is how he earns a living. Mark’s account tells us his name is Bartimaeus. He is blind - physically disabled, sitting by the road - socially outcast, begging - economically poor. This man needs a miracle. He hears the sound of a crowd passing by and then he hears 6 words that will change his life forever. “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” (Luke 18:37b NIV)

What does this man know about Jesus of Nazareth? Enough to call Him “Son of David”, enough to beg for mercy? Enough to garner the attention of the Rabbi? There were some in the crowd trying to keep him quiet, but there were also some people helping him get to Jesus. Isn’t that usually the case? Mark’s account says, “And casting aside his cloak, he jumped up, and came to Jesus.” (Mark 10:50, NIV) Jesus asks him a question, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus wanted to see. Isn’t that what we want today as well?

As we begin our time of prayer and fasting, how would you answer that question? Sit in the stillness of the moment and hear your Rabbi ask, “_____________ (insert your name), what do you want Me to do for you?” What are you seeking from the Lord during this time? Do you have any blind spots?

What are the voices discouraging you from coming to Him? What are the voices encouraging you? What hinders you or slows you down from coming to Him quickly? What distractions will keep you from fully engaging with Him over the next 14 days? Friend, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by and is asking, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

Jesus, over the next 14 days (and beyond) I want __________________.

Lord, make my desires Yours, reveal where I am blind, reveal what hinders me from coming to You quickly and fully. In Jesus’ name.
