A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks; a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered. –Proverbs 27:12 MSG
When we are approaching danger, our first reaction should be to take a detour or proceed with caution. But it’s easy to get sidetracked. We live in a world filled with distractions that strive to capture our attention, luring us into a false sense of security. Or perhaps we are in the midst of an emotional or spiritual struggle that is leading us down the wrong path. Our preoccupations and lack of attention to the Lord’s guidance may seem to give us satisfaction for a short time, but they inevitably move us away from God’s hand of protection.
Psalm 119:37 (MSG) tells us how to proceed: “God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.” As we focus our attention on God’s Word and stay alert, we’ll avoid the dangers that arise from walking around blindly. As we keep our eyes on the Lord, adhering to the course laid out by Him, we’ll avoid the paths that could lead us astray.
Pray for God to help you keep your focus on Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you along the right path.
