Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. –Galatians 5:13-15 MSG
Do you pursue Jesus for what He can do for you? Or, do you follow Him to be His disciple—carrying the cross and laying your life down for those around you? The service the Apostle Paul talks about in Galatians 5 is not based on something you feel; it is an act of obedience to God.
Jesus provided the perfect example of service in John 13 when He washed the feet of His disciples. In biblical times, the washing of feet was work for the lowest of servants. Jesus humbled Himself before His disciples and performed this lowly act as a sign of love and service.
Matthew 20:28 (NIV) says that Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
As you begin to put your focus on others, rather than on yourself, you will begin to experience true freedom.
Ask God to show you how you can provide the humble service to which He has called you.
Pray that God brings you opportunities to serve those around you.
