Pride Comes Before The Fall

First pride, then the crash—the bigger the ego, the harder the fall. –Proverbs 16:18 MSG

The Bible is clear regarding the consequences of pride. The sin of pride turned Lucifer from a beautiful angel to the devourer. This sin led to his exile from Heaven. He was sent to earth. The sin of pride led Eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Consequently, she and Adam were exiled from the Garden.

A proud heart focuses on self, proclaiming, “It’s all about me.” Pride presents itself in numerous ways—being quarrelsome, insisting that life is unfair, making excuses, being unteachable, feeling superior to others, and having a lack of forgiveness. Pride convinces you that you are more important than others. Pride keeps you relying on yourself rather than on God.

How do you fix a proud heart? It can be mended by giving your life to Jesus Christ. The Lord explains in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV), “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Go to God in prayer, seek to know Him, and turn from your prideful ways. Then He will heal you in His way and time.
