Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. –1 Peter 3:10 NIV
How often do we say things we regret? At such times, we wish we could take back our words. But, unfortunately, once the words are uttered, it is already too late. We can’t change what has been said. We have all been guilty of this. So, what can be done?Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) says, “The tongue has the power of life and death….” Knowing this, we realize how vitally important it is to think of the consequences of our words before speaking them. We need to daily pray Psalm 141:3 (NLT), “Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.”1 Peter 3:9 (NIV) tells us, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can begin to respond with words of life.
Ask the Lord for help each day in guarding your tongue.
Ask for the Holy Spirit to help you to pause before speaking to consider the consequences.
