There used to be a television commercial for cough drops where a man stood on the top of a mountain yelling, “REEECOLA!” We may wonder how long he had been up there. Perhaps he traveled a long way through a valley and struggled as he climbed to the top.
It often seems in life that we spend more time walking through those valleys than we do standing on the mountaintops proclaiming victory. But think about this: without passing through the valleys, we’d be tempted to take for granted the view from the top. Without the valleys, the view would be ordinary, offering us little joy. When we walk through the valley, we have only one way to look—UP! But whether we’re struggling through a low period in life or enjoying a victory, we must remember the words of the Apostle Paul: “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:12-13 NIV).
If you’re walking through the darkest valley today, rest in the assurance that the Lord is with you, comforting you and never leaving your side. Then, look up! Your REEECOLA moment is surely on the way.
Thank You, Lord, for walking beside me through the valleys of life.
Lord, as I walk through the valley, help me to remember that the victory is coming.
