Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! –2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
How do we live a healthy emotional life that doesn’t take us on a daily roller coaster ride? How do we stay in peace no matter how hateful someone is? How do we keep a genuine smile on our faces when we’re being scowled at? Where does our identity come from? Is it from our jobs or our financial status? Our identity doesn’t depend on being accepted, appreciated, or treated fairly. It doesn’t depend on who is or isn’t speaking to us. It doesn’t even depend on what others think about us. When our identity is in Christ, we know that we’re loved, appreciated, and have extreme value, not because of anything we’ve done but because of who He is and what He’s done for us.When we are secure in His identity, it doesn’t matter what anyone else does or thinks. Our emotional health is no longer dependent on anyone else; instead, it’s rooted and grounded in love. We can look into the face of hate and feel love; we can be more concerned about another’s pain than our feelings. We are untouchable when we’ve been touched by His love. Remember, roller coasters are only fun in theme parks.
When someone is rude, ask yourself, “Why are they sharing their pain cookie with me?” They need love, so be love.
Pray for eyes to see others’ pain and refuse to be offended. Hurt people hurt people, and loved people love people. Be love.
