Should I Google It?

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. –James 1:5 ESV

When picking up her young son from school, a mother routinely asked him what he’d learned that day. One particular day, the boy was excited to tell his mom about Abraham Lincoln. He told her everything he had learned about him being president and all the good things he had done. He then sadly explained that the story ended with the death of the president as he was shot and killed. The boy was quiet after that. The mother could see him in her rearview mirror, and she could tell that he was perplexed about something. After a few minutes of silence, he asked, “Mom, did Lincoln go to Heaven?” His mother had to admit that she didn’t know. Without a moment’s hesitation, the boy excitedly suggested, “Let’s Google it!” She sadly realized that he was serious. We live in a world that thinks all of the answers can be found through technology. In such a world, God isn’t seen as necessary. In the minds of many, He has been replaced by artificial intelligence. Who do we go to when we have questions, God or Google? Do we surf the internet, or do we search the Word? The answer to what we ought to do is found in James 1:5. We are to seek out the Lord. He gives wisdom generously to all who ask. In Jeremiah 33:3 (GW), the Lord says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
