Standing Firm - Part One

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. –Ephesians 6:13 NIV

Log on to any news website, and you will likely find some report that chronicles the continuing decay of morals, decency, and long-held Christian beliefs. As a result of this constant barrage, many believers have begun to feel, well… helpless.

As troubling as these current times are, the early church faced many of the same assaults. Paul’s words to the Ephesians regarding the armor of God are still just as relevant today.

Take a minute to absorb the essence of Ephesians 6:13-17.

Truth, as found in the Word of God, is paramount. Before attempting to stand against any kind of evil, you must know what you believe and in Whom you believe. Faith is your ultimate defense as well as your strongest offense. It undergirds and strengthens everything you do. No matter how much ability you have, what resources you can wield, or how sharp your arguments appear, all of these things will ultimately be ineffective if the foundation under you gives way.

Before you try to counter the slow and destructive assault of this age, remind yourself of the promises of Christ, and be sure that your life is resting on the foundation of faith in God.

prayer focuses

Lord, help me to keep Your armor firmly in place in order to be a light in this dark world.

Jesus, help me to shine Your light brightly today.
