Talk Is Cheap

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. –Ephesians 4:1-2 NIV

Some of the most influential people throughout history have been Jesus followers. In more recent history, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King Jr. are just a couple who come to mind immediately. These and countless other believers lived their faith out loud. It was evident in the way they tirelessly served God by living lives of peace, acceptance, humility, and service to those who were persecuted, vilified, or ignored by the rest of the world.Parents know that it’s useless to tell children, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Similarly, Christians know that professing to believe in the teachings of Jesus; but neglecting, or refusing, to live according to those beliefs essentially negates all of our words—no matter how eloquent. Worse, our hypocrisy can serve to push others away from Christ.Consider those who live within your sphere of influence. Do your children, spouse, coworkers, or neighbors need to see God in action, Jesus in the flesh? The way we live our lives every minute is more important than anything we can say to anyone. Talk is cheap; but living the right way—God’s way—is priceless.

Holy Spirit, please reveal anything that I’m doing that isn’t aligned with Your perfect way.

Lord, give me the strength, courage, and awareness to be the role model that people around me need to see.
