The Benefit Package

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things… –Psalm 103:2-5 NIV

Have you ever started a new job that came with a great benefit package—paid sick leave, holiday pay, insurance, and paid vacations? If your last job was pretty lousy, these new benefits may seem like a dream come true and that life is suddenly looking much better. When you gave your life to Christ, your new “position” as a child of God also came with a benefit package. The benefits are listed in Psalm 103. All your sins are forgiven, past, present, and future. All your diseases are healed, and your life is redeemed from the pit of despair. You are crowned with love and compassion. Your desires are satisfied with good things, for God never withholds good things from those who love Him. Your youth is renewed like the eagle; and when you are oppressed, He works for your justice and righteousness. What an amazing benefit package! Our Father is compassionate, yet the world is condemning. Our Father is slow to anger and abounding in love, while the world is filled with hate. In Christ, we discover that our last position was pretty lousy, but our position in Him is eternal and sweet.

prayer focuses

Read Psalm 103 daily reminding yourself of whose you are and claim His benefits.

Great benefits make a great life, so why despair? Look up, believe the Word, and refuse to live your life less than great.
