The God Who Sees – Part One

Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” –Genesis 16:13 NKJV

Genesis 16:13 tells us the story of Hagar the Egyptian maidservant of Sarai, Abram’s wife. God commanded Abram to leave his father’s house, and He would take him to a land that He would give him. God promised Abram that he would make him into a great nation and would bless him (Genesis 12:1-9). However, Sarai was barren, so she gave Abram her maidservant Hagar to have children through her. Hagar conceived, and Sarai became jealous, treating Hagar cruelly and harshly. Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she fled into the wilderness to get away from her. Isn’t that the same thing we do when we are dealing with difficult people? Maybe we are dealing with a harsh or unfair boss at work; or the harsh situation could be happening at home. So we flee to the wilderness—the place of desolation, isolation, and hopelessness. Instead of staying in the wilderness, let’s remember that our God sees. Our Father knows our every pain and catches our every tear; He is the God who sees our heart. God met Hagar right there in the wilderness and spoke with her face-to-face. Our Father is waiting to do the same for us!
