Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. –Psalm 51:10 NIV
The definition of “pure” is to be wholesome and untainted by immorality; to be free of contamination. Romans 3:23 (NIV) says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We (all of us) fall short of the glory of God. Therefore, it is necessary—it is imperative—that we surrender our hearts to our Lord Jesus every single day. After all, He gave His life so that you and I would have access to the throne of Abba, our heavenly Father.
The psalmist David prayed to the Father, “Create in me a pure heart” after he sinned greatly before God. David’s prayer should also be our daily prayer. We sin daily. In fact, we sin sometimes without realizing it until the Holy Spirit convicts us of what we have done. How glorious that we have a companion that is with us to nudge and remind us of our transgressions so that we can repent. When Jesus was resurrected to Heaven, He showed His great love and compassion for us by leaving us the Holy Spirit as Comforter to guide and lead us.
Let us say David’s prayer on a daily basis with a sincere heart. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. So, do you want to see God?
My heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and His sacrifice.
Holy Spirit, thank You for Your love, companionship, guidance, and leadership.
