You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. –Matthew 5:13 NKJV
In Matthew 5:13, Jesus explains how Christians are to be like salt to the world. Salt has many attributes. It acts as a preservative, it adds flavor to food, and it also increases thirst.
God’s Word says, “Be preservatives yourselves. Preserve the peace” (Mark 9:50 MSG). As a Jesus follower, it’s important that you preserve peace, not only in your own life, but in the lives of your sisters and brothers in Christ. Be gracious and patient in your manner when talking with those who are still held in the pepper shaker of darkness. If your faith has been shaken or you’ve gradually lost your spice, refuse to let circumstances or what’s taken place cause you to feel hopeless or irritated with others.
As you allow Christ to work, speak, and shine through you, you’ll be a flavoring that those around you will crave. You’ll draw others toward Christ who lives in you, and you will leave them thirsting for the Lord and seeking after your genuine and considerate way of living. In time, Jesus may win them over, and they’ll become members of God’s salty family.
Pray that God will reveal to you whether or not you have been slowly losing your spiritual fervor.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you preserve important relationships and be a God-flavoring ingredient in the lives of others.
