Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. –John 15:13 NIV
People are prone to forget, even important things, and need to be reminded. In the Bible God instituted laws and feasts (like Passover), which served to regularly remind the Israelites of important events, and especially of His faithfulness to them. In Joshua 4, God instructed them to build a 12-stone structure, reminding them of passing over the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Jesus established communion with these words, “Do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19).God wants us to remember important people and times. Memorial Day in the United States is designed just for that. Today is set apart to remember and honor the men and women of the armed services who gave their lives and died defending America’s freedom. How can you honor the memory of the fallen? One way is to pray. Thank God for those who demonstrated “great love” and died defending your freedoms. Ask Him to comfort and protect the families who lost loved ones. Intercede for America, asking God to move on hearts, revive His truths, and restore His vision. Ask for God’s mercy and protection.
Make a list of each of the freedoms you personally enjoy by living in this great nation and thank God for them.
Ask God to use you in prayer to bring revival to America.
