But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. –2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV
The words "we have" in the Greek is echomen. In the above verse according to Rick Renner, the word means to have, to hold, to possess, or to keep. It is the picture of someone who "has" something in his or her possession because it belongs to them, it is rightfully theirs, and they have the right to keep it.This treasure is something that all believers have, something that legally belongs to them and have a right to claim! As Paul states we are the possessors of riches beyond belief. Our (jars of clay), are the location of this divine treasure, the Holy Spirit. You are valuable and precious in God's sight. As a born again believer you can joyfully say that you carry the Presence of God in you. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit, the home of the greatest treasure you could possibly attain. God has placed His power, gifts, grace, fruit and His character in you. Realizing this truth about the Holy Spirit living in you helps you to refuse to listen to the lies of the devil and establishes this happy anticipation that something good is going to happen.
