Charles Mully is an extraordinary man. According to a 2017 documentary about his life, he was abandoned by his parents when he was ten and wandered for years—alone, angry, and hopeless—in his native Kenya. An Indian woman took him in and gave him work on her farm, where Charles met Esther, his future wife. Beginning with a taxi service, Charles built a multi-business, multimillion-dollar empire. He, Esther, and their eight children lived in a big house, hosted lavish parties, and lacked no luxury.One day in 1989, Charles told Esther and his children that God had told him to close all of his businesses and devote his life to rescuing Kenya’s orphans—children at risk of becoming victims of disease, starvation, violence, drug abuse, and untimely death. His family thought he was joking, and his friends thought he had lost his mind.
