She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” –Proverbs 31:27-29 NIV
Proverbs 31 paints a lovely picture of what being a mother looks like in a perfect household, where the children and husband both praise and admire everything she does. But any mother with young children knows that it can often be a thankless job. Even moms with adult children may never get the praise they deserve.
As a mother, you may often find yourself feeling weary, tired, and worn out. It can be such hard work with very little feedback to confirm that you’re “doing it right.” Spend some time listening to your Creator. Let Him refresh you. Know that just as He knit you together in your mother’s womb, He knit your children in your womb or that of another sweet mother. He has a purpose for your life that includes trusting you to raise your children into what He’s created them to be.
When you think of the responsibility of it all, don’t get overwhelmed. Teach your children about the Lord. Raise them in His love. Release them into their God-given purpose. They may never thank you; but you can listen for God’s still, small voice saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21 NIV).
Pray that the Lord will help you to use the fruits of His Holy Spirit in your interactions with your children.
Pray that all mothers around the world will receive an encouraging word of some kind, today.
