We Ain't Sissies

I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. –Joshua 14:11 NIV

Many have heard the adage, “Getting old ain’t for sissies.” Caleb, a man of faith, understood this. He needed to convince Joshua that he should be one of the spies sent out with the dangerous assignment of checking out Canaan, the Promised Land. At the age of 85, Caleb asserted that he was still as strong as he was at the age of 40 and well able to take on the task. He successfully completed his mission. With faith and courage, this elderly man followed God’s call, and consequently, He and His descendants were richly blessed. A “sissy” may give up and act old because of a number, but a believer with a warrior spirit like Caleb’s never quits.

Just as David expressed in Psalms 103:5 (NLT), the Lord can renew our youth like the eagles. Even in old age, we can be filled with sufficient energy, vitality, and strength to accomplish all that the Lord has assigned. We must each refuse to be a sissy and rather become like Caleb—unwilling to kneel to doubt or unbelief. We each will then enter our Promised Land, not as those who are old, but as those who are seasoned and filled with experience.

prayer focuses

Ask God for strength daily to accomplish all that He has for you to do.

Ask the Lord to help you focus on what you can do and not what you can’t do, knowing that when you are weak, He is strong.
