Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. –Colossians 3:12 NIV
What am I going to wear today? It’s one of the first things you think about when you get out of bed in the morning. Advertising bombards us with phrases like “Dress for Success. You are what you wear. The clothes make the man.” Choose not to define your worth or beauty by your outward appearance. There are a lot of “not so pretty” people walking around in top-of-the-line designer goods. Yet, the most beautiful person you know probably looks a lot like Grandma on Saturday morning, a faithful friend in the hard times, or a favorite teacher who told you that you could do it. You may not remember what handbag she carried, the color of his tie, or if her clothes were pretty or even fashionable, but you remember their heart.Colossians 3:9-10 reminds you that you have taken off your old self with all of its worldly practices and you have put on a new self. Colossians 3:12 reminds you of the clothes that have real value. Go ahead—try those on for size; they’re a perfect fit.
Thank God for the ability to put on His clothing.
Ask God to help you dress His way—with compassion, kindness, gentleness, etc.—and to leave the old ways—greed, lust, lying, etc.—behind.
