Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are. –Proverbs 26:4 NLT
Conflicts arise in everyday life. One of the ways to handle disagreements is to follow James 1:19, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Even if you are not the one causing the conflict, you should not add fuel to the fire. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1 NIV).
Yet, no matter how hard you try, some conflicts cannot be avoided. They can lead to resentment, broken relationships, anxiety, and stress. The key is to be quick to forgive. Jesus was wrongly accused, yet He still forgave those who accused Him. Since you are a follower of Jesus, let Him be your example. This will give you the peace found in Philippians 4:7: “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Don’t dwell on the conflict—move forward and have peace.
Ask God to help you be slow to speak and slow to become angry when conflicts arise.
Pray for peace that only God can give in times of trouble.
