All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life. –Proverbs 7:22-23 NIV
This passage of Scripture, though specifically addressing the man who falls prey to the lure of the adulteress, provides a vivid picture of a person who lives without wisdom. Wisdom plans, counts the cost, considers consequences before acting, learns from mistakes of others, evaluates motives of those who speak, and is careful with actions.Contrast that with the person illustrated in Proverbs 7, who is lured easily, acts impulsively, disregards logical consequences, does not learn from the folly of others, is oblivious to danger and careless with actions.God gives believers the gift of discernment, but when you ignore His warnings and act on emotion and unbridled desire, you walk right into obvious traps of the enemy that will lead to your destruction just as surely as the bird flies right into a trap. However, when you choose to read and practice the Words of God written in the Bible, it will illuminate the darkness and become a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105).
Pray for clear discernment from the Holy Spirit in making decisions today.
Ask God for strength to walk according to His Word, even when it requires making difficult and unpopular choice.
