It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. –Galatians 5:1 NIV
Recently, a pastor was sharing with his congregation about his childhood. He shared that when he was two years old, his dad left home and never came back. Then at age four, he lost his mom. The pastor commented that this typical scenario often results in children growing up to very likely end up in divorce themselves, addictions, and so much other brokenness. But then the pastor blurted out these words: “I’m not a statistic!” He reflected on how he had enjoyed being married for sixty-four years. You are not a statistic. You are a unique creation of Almighty God. No one else ever has had or ever will have your genetic makeup. No one else ever had or ever will have your unique life calling. There is an assignment in God’s heart that only you can fulfill. You are not a helpless victim of circumstance. You are not slave to the addictions, dysfunction, pride, lust, unforgiveness, self-hatred, or whatever else you have struggled with. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus has opened the door for you to receive not only eternal life but also victory in this life.
Lord, I refuse to be a victim of my past.
Help me move past it. Lord, open my eyes to the eternal, unique purpose for my life that no one else can fulfill.
