Let love be your highest goal! –1 Corinthians 14:1 NLT
Chocolates, flowers, cards, hearts—lots of hearts—ahhh, Valentine’s Day expressions of love. Everyone needs to know they are loved. Today many anticipate receiving something to validate that love. Although the origins of the holiday are uncertain, it’s clear at some point people began exchanging notes of appreciation and love. Who doesn’t like receiving cards and gifts declaring “I love you”? Not all love, though, is the true love that wholly satisfies the human need to be loved. True love is perfect, pure, committed, and constant. True love isn’t based on anything you do or don’t do. It is unconditional, unearned, unchanging. True love is given freely without regard to status, appearance, or position. God’s love is the only true love. God demonstrated this love by giving His Son, Jesus Christ. Through Jesus, God offers us eternal life and His unfailing love to fill our hearts and satisfy our deepest needs. Today, go ahead and give cards and gifts to show your love, and happily receive those you’re given; but most importantly, receive the perfect love of Jesus that can heal every hurt, lift every weight, push away pain, and guide each decision. Make God’s love your highest pursuit, and live loved every day.
Thank God for His perfect love for you.
Ask Him to reveal His love for you in personal, unique ways that you can understand. Make time to receive a fresh infilling of the Father’s love every day. Ask Him to help you show His love to someone in need.
