Christ Jesus, Esq.

Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. –Romans 8:34 ESV

You’re a careful driver. You obey the speed limit when no one else does. Yet, one fateful morning you find yourself in a fender bender. The traffic is bumper to bumper, inching along, and then the traffic begins to flow. But for whatever reason, the car in front of you doesn’t move, and your car bumps into its back fender. You get the ticket, it’s your fault, and your day is totally ruined. Now you’re faced with the cost of the ticket, points on your license, and higher insurance rates. What do you do? There are lawyers who specialize in traffic tickets. They go to court for you. They plead your case before a judge and intercede on your behalf. Sometimes, they are able to get the charges dropped and the points removed. And, your record is restored. All you may have to do is pay the fine and the legal fees. We trust that a lawyer can defend our case before a judge, but we have an infinitely greater advocate. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father, and He is pleading our case. When we repent, Jesus gets all the charges against us dropped, and we are totally restored. There is no fine and no legal fees to pay. Our lawyer, Jesus, paid the price with His own blood. No one can condemn us when Jesus is our defender. Praise the Lord!

prayer focuses

Thank You, Jesus, for being my advocate. Thank You for not only defending me, but for paying the price I can never repay.

Father, help me to run to You when I fall, and may repentance be my first thought.
