For this is what the high and exalted One says- He who lives forever, whose name is Holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite…” –Isaiah 57:15 NIV

The Holy One of Israel

For this is what the high and exalted One says- He who lives forever, whose name is Holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite…” –Isaiah 57:15 NIV

There are many names in the Bible for God. Throughout the Old Testament, the Lord is referred to as the Holy One of Israel. The prophet Isaiah mentions the Holy One twenty-five times in his writings. God is also referred to as the awesome One, the God of greatness and perfection, and the eternal One. Yet incredibly, though He is the God of greatness and perfection, the Holy One of Israel draws near to the lowly and contrite. The eternal God, who resides in high places, is exalted in all the earth, and dwells among the humble, poor, and remorseful to revive their broken souls. Although God is the King and Lord of the universe, the Creator of heaven and earth is never too busy or too distant to be with us in the most challenging moments of our lives. God is faithful, and He is always with us. Our hope and our trust must abide in our eternal God. Isaiah 26:4 (NIV) says, “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” The Lord is unmovable. He will strengthen us, take us by the hand, and never let us go. We can rest assured that the Holy One, His Majesty, will remain with us through hours of pain and suffering. As we fix our eyes upon Jesus and rest in Him, He will revive our spirits and heal our broken hearts.

God of goodness and mercy, help me to be still and know that You are God—my refuge and my fortress.

Holy Spirit, give me the strength and resilience to press on in my most difficult moments.
