I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. –Psalm 16:7-8 NIV
Many live very chaotic lives these days; consequently, many have a hard time sleeping. We either can’t fall asleep right away, or we’re wide awake at 3:00 a.m. So why not take advantage of that awake time? The Bible tells the story of Samuel. After being dedicated to God by his mother, Samuel spent his life ministering under Eli (1 Samuel 2:11). The word of the Lord was rare in those days, so one night when Samuel heard his name being called, he thought it was Eli. When he went to Eli, he was told to go back to bed, for Eli hadn’t called Samuel. This happened three times before Eli finally realized that God was calling Samuel. He told Samuel to go back to bed, and if he heard the voice again, he was to say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9). Then the Lord spoke to Samuel and revealed everything that was going to happen to Eli.What if we are so distracted during the day that the only time the Lord can get our attention is at night? The next time you can’t sleep, don’t get frustrated. Instead, let the Lord know you’re listening. Speak, Lord, please.
When you can’t sleep, pray and worship the Father.
Then listen—He will speak to you.

Pray for God to give you ears to hear His voice. His words will answer every question you have.
