Armor of God – Part 4

Stand firm then…with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. –Ephesians 6:14-15 NIV

Have you ever wondered what you would do without your feet? In trying to walk, you would literally be going nowhere. The same holds true for your spiritual walk. Fortunately, when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He provided you with protective equipment essential for safeguarding your spiritual feet. With the armor of God, your feet have been “…fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” (Ephesians 6:15 NIV). But even with your feet protected, there is no guarantee that you would be moving forward in battle. Backsliding is an ever-present danger. To guard against losing ground, Roman soldiers were fitted with special footwear that had spikes on the soles that enabled the soldier to stand his ground and not slide backward. And that particular feature was likely what Paul had in mind in his letter to the Ephesians. The Lord desires us to move forward in faith, as expressed in His words to Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NIV). Your feet are ready. Onward Christian soldier!
