Armor of God – Part 5

Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. –Ephesians 6:16 NKJV

Why is the shield of faith “above all”? When this armor is positioned properly, it provides total protection. When lacking faith in any aspect of our lives, we are vulnerable to fear, doubt, hopelessness, pride, anger, jealousy, and the inability to forgive. These are wounds indicating an area that is not covered by faith and a place where trust in God’s promises needs to be raised. To increase faith, we need to examine evidence of God’s faithfulness to us throughout our lives, as well as evidence in His Word. God’s faithfulness to us is evident throughout the Old and New Testaments:. “…the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV). “…with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27 NKJV). “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5 NIV).Faith is needed at work and at home, and while you are driving, shopping, dining, and even sleeping. Faith is needed when you are alone and while you are with others. Be alert for signs that an arrow has penetrated your defenses. Raise your shield of faith and trust in God.
