Believing without Seeing

For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. –John 3:16 NIV

A fundamental question about Christianity has often been asked, “Why doesn’t God just show Himself to us?” And why must we believe without seeing Him in order to go to Heaven? It would be difficult to address these questions without first understanding that God created us to increase His family with those on earth who would truly love Him. We learn in Genesis chapters two and three that He had a personal relationship with the first people He created, Adam and Eve, and spoke with them. But they betrayed Him and were consequently separated from God. They could no longer physically hear His voice. But God did not stop there. He came to us again in the form of a man, Jesus Christ. But, we crucified Him. God then sent His Holy Spirit to guide us and so that whoever believes would have eternal life with Him. Since the beginning of time, our Lord has shown Himself to us. He continues to speak to us and reveal Himself to us through His Word, the Bible, prayer, other believers, and all of creation. It is up to each of us to accept Him and join His family.
