Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. –Jonah 1:17 NIV
When God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach against its wickedness, Jonah disobeyed and headed in the opposite direction. He didn’t like his assignment from God. The farther Jonah ran, the worse his great escape grew. God pursued Jonah by sending a fierce storm that threatened to destroy the ship he was using to escape. The only way for the storm to cease was for the crew members to toss Jonah into the sea. While Jonah was sinking, God rescued him by means of a great fish. God placed Jonah in timeout for three days and three nights. From inside the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed. God heard his prayers and directed the fish to vomit Jonah out onto dry land.In spite of Jonah’s disobedience, God gave him another chance to fulfill His assignment. When God spoke to Jonah the second time, he obeyed by going to Nineveh and spoke what God decreed. Because of Jonah’s message, the Ninevites turned from their wicked ways and turned to God.Has God given you an assignment that you’ve been avoiding? If so, repent and obey His desires. You’ll never go wrong when you act upon your Father’s undertakings.
Thank Jesus for fulfilling His mission to save you.
Thank Him for conquering death by spending three days and nights in the earth. Praise God for giving you multiple “second chances” to repent, obey, and fulfill the assignments He’s given you.
