Day 207: Bible Duo – Lot and His Wife

But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt. –Genesis 19:26 NLT

We can learn from Lot’s wife. In Genesis, chapter 19, the angels of the Lord warned Lot and his family of the urgency to flee from the destruction about to take place in their city. During this crucial hour of escape, the Lord’s messenger warned Lot and his family not to look back. Unfortunately, Lot’s wife disobeyed. She looked back and became a pillar of salt.Although the Lord’s angels led her away from doom, her heart and mind remained there. Just like Lot’s wife, you might be struggling with letting go. You know God is offering you something new, but you’re reluctant to release the old.Letting go of what you have grown accustomed to isn’t easy. Moving, switching careers, changing churches, or letting go of relationships, whether good or bad, can be heartbreaking. Isaiah 43:18 (NIV) says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”Transition can be hard to accept and embrace, even when you’re sure it’s what God desires. Whatever, wherever, whomever He is asking you to depart from, trust that the Lord has better in mind for you. As you let go, don’t look back! Move onward, as God directs, and watch Him bless your obedience.

prayer focuses

Pray that God will reveal to you what “former things” He wants you to release so you can freely move ahead with Him.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you flee from your past lifestyle so you can embrace the new nature God desires to cultivate in you.
