Day 204: Bible Duo – Moses and Joshua

In the future, when your children ask you, “What do these stones mean?” tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. …These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever. –Joshua 4:6-7 NIV

God chose Joshua to be Moses’ replacement in leading the Israelites out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land. After they crossed the river, God told Joshua to pick twelve men and have them take a stone from the Jordan and place the stones in front of the Ark of the Lord. This twelve-stone memorial was a reminder to the Israelites, and generations to come, of God’s faithfulness in leading them out of Egypt, through the wilderness, and, ultimately, into the Promised Land. From start to finish God remained faithful to His promise to Moses, to Joshua, and to His people regardless of errors made during the lengthy journey. It’s often in hindsight that we see God’s faithfulness made real in our lives. Recognizing and recording what God has done in prior times—whether jotting them down in a journal or in the margin of your Bible—is an excellent way to remember God’s faithfulness. It will also encourage you when tough times arise, that God was faithful then, surely He will be faithful in the present, too. When God speaks to your heart—do as Moses and Joshua did—listen, obey, and move onward according to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

prayer focuses

God, thank You for all You have done in my life.

It’s a blessing to share with others how You worked all things out for good. What step of faith has God been nudging you to take? Is there anything holding you back from taking that next step?
