Day 201: Bible Duo – Peter and Jesus

Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. –John 15:13 NIV

The disciple Peter and Jesus had a relationship of love, misunderstanding, forgiveness, and restoration. Peter was a dedicated disciple who loved Jesus. Yet when Peter messed up, as he did on multiple occasions, he despaired over his faltering actions.Peter believed Jesus walked on the water during a stormy night. Thus, when Jesus called to Peter to get out of the boat, Peter walked on the water toward Him. But when Peter took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink. Peter had a faith failure. Before Jesus’ crucifixion, three times Peter denied knowing Him. When the rooster crowed, Peter’s heart was torn as he recalled Jesus’ prior words about the future incident. Peter wept in sorrowful repentance. Regardless of Peter’s faith failures, Jesus loved him and believed in him. After Jesus’ resurrection, He met the disciples on the beach. He then forgave Peter, confirmed Peter’s love for Him, met Peter where he was, and commissioned Peter to lead His church.Like Peter, at times we too can experience faith failures. However, that doesn’t mean that God gives up on us. He knows that we are not perfect, and we will doubt Him at times. Through it all, He extends His mercy, grace, and love to build up our faith.

Jesus, thank You for paying for my transgressions by dying on the Cross for me.

I invite You into my heart to be my Savior. Father God, by grace Jesus forgave my sins. Help me live to be more like Him every day.
