But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. –Ruth 1:16 NLT
The book of Ruth tells us about the love of a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. There was a great famine in Israel during which Naomi and her husband, Elimelech, along with their sons, leave their home and move to Moab. While in Moab, their sons marry Moabite women. Then Naomi’s husband dies, and both sons also pass away. Naomi is near destitute, and she decides to return to Bethlehem. She tells her daughters-in-law to stay in Moab with their families, but Ruth clung to Naomi and wouldn’t leave her. Ruth wasn’t a Jew, and this was unheard of in her culture. However, Ruth loved Naomi and wanted to follow after the God of Israel.God’s faithfulness works out a plan for a man named Boaz to marry Ruth. Boaz was a “kinsman redeemer,” and the custom at that time was for a relative to marry the man’s widow in order to perpetuate his lineage. In the midst of Ruth and Naomi’s affliction, God had a plan to take care of them. Boaz marries Ruth, and they have a son—Obed, who is the father of Jesse. Jesse is King David’s father, and thus, Ruth becomes David’s great-grandmother. A beautiful picture of God’s faithfulness.
Praise God, Jesus is your Redeemer.
Thank the Lord that you are part of His plan.
