We may long for a pleasant life filled with comfort and good experiences, but the reality is we live in a fallen world. Almost nothing is as it should be forever. How we perceive life’s hardships and burdens depends largely on our perspective. When burdens seem overwhelming, we can’t concentrate and are distracted. The world looks dark even when the sun is out. We want to distance ourselves from others, but that results in more despair.When we take our eyes off our circumstances and find rest in the Lord, this changes everything. Psalm 13:1 (NIV) starts with David asking the Lord, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” but then David shifts his perspective and remembers that God is trustworthy. He tells the Lord in Psalm 13:5-6 (NLT), “But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.”Let these words penetrate your circumstances and change your perspective. Think back and remember when God carried you through difficult circumstances. He didn’t fail you then, and He will not fail you now. Change your perspective!
