…The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. –Numbers 14:7-8 NIV
After the great Exodus from Egypt, Moses sent out twelve spies to explore the Promised Land God was leading them into. When the spies returned, ten gave a pessimistic report (Numbers 13:27-33); and two, Joshua and Caleb, gave an optimistic account.Due to the Israelites’ lack of faith and disobedience, God caused them to linger in the wilderness for forty years before entering the land. He vowed that every person twenty years old or older would die in the wilderness and would not see the land with two exceptions—Caleb and Joshua (Numbers 14:24,38). These two faith-filled men, who believed God’s promise to give the land over to them, ultimately received what they had anticipated.Feeling stuck or lost in the wilderness of life? Don’t fret. God has His eyes on you. He yearns to lead you out of worldliness, murmuring, and unbelief. His Word says, “…Without faith it is impossible to please God…” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV). Ask Him for eyes of faith to see the new possibilities and new ways of living He longs for you to embrace. Start envisioning the new land of freedom and obedience God is leading you to. Take whatever faith steps He asks you to take.
We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.
