Father Knows Best

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. –Galatians 6:9 NKJV

If your six-year-old son came in from playing and said, “Hey Mom, I need your car keys to run to the store to get some ice cream for my friends,” would you give him the keys? Of course not! You love your son, and you’re happy that he has good friends. You’re also thrilled that he’s generous and wants to share with them. However, you also know that he’s not ready to drive a car yet. There’s no way you’re going to give him something that could destroy him. Your six-year-old son is going to be mad when you say no, but your love for him isn’t moved by his feelings. His ultimate good is your utmost concern. Many times, we go to the Father in prayer asking for things we’re just not ready for yet. He knows that sometimes we’ll be angry if He says no, that we might accuse Him of not caring, and that we might tell others that prayer doesn’t work. However, God is not moved by our feelings. He’s moved only by love, and our ultimate good is His utmost concern. If He says no, rejoice! Our Father always knows best, so wait on His perfect timing.

prayer focuses

Sometimes God says yes, sometimes no, and sometimes wait.

Be patient in the waiting, for He might be sparing you much grief. Are you willing to ask for the Father’s will, or is your will the only way? Parents say no because they’re wiser, so is He.
