Do you remember what it was like when you first met your spouse? Do you remember the tingles, looking into each other’s eyes, and missing them every minute you were apart? Sadly, after many years of kids and jobs, we often forget what attracted us in the first place. Unless we rekindle those feelings, marriages can grow cold and die.Our relationship with the Lord is similar to our relationship with our spouse. When we first get saved, we’re excited about the Word, prayer, and church. We’ll talk about the Lord with anyone who’ll listen. Jesus is our everything, and we want to be in His presence. Sadly, after being a Christian for a while, we often slack off on Bible reading, prayer, and get complacent. We become lukewarm.In Revelation, there are seven letters written to individual churches. The recipients of these letters were commended and also chastised. The church at Ephesus had lost their first love, and Jesus called them to repent. They had good deeds and endured hardships patiently, but they had lost their first love. All the good things they did didn’t matter without love.Let us pursue our first love of the Lord above all else, and rekindle the flame.
