Day 174: Divinely Selected

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. –Ephesians 1:4 MSG

The Greek word eklego, used in Ephesians 1:4, means a divine selection for salvation. It can also mean “to choose, to call out, or to elect.” In Greek writings, this word also referred to a person or a group of people who were selected for a specific purpose. We were chosen by God. There is nothing we can do that will make God stop loving us. As it says in Psalm 139:13-16, God saw us in our mother’s womb. All the days ordained for us were written by God before one of them came to be. God selected us before we were even born. We are special, the apple of God’s eye as it states in Zechariah 2:8. He calls us to be His own. Now as His children we are to walk worthily of this high calling we have received. We are a significant part of His plan! Our obedience results from a relationship with God, but obedience will never create or earn that relationship. The only way to the Father is through Jesus. God doesn’t waste our time. He will use our past and present so we may serve Him with our future.
