Day 16: An Ultimate Gift

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus. –Luke 1:31 NIV

More than 2,000 years ago a baby was born. His name is Jesus. This was no ordinary baby. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a human virgin. The Father sent His Son down to earth and Love was born. His birth changed history; but each year the Christmas story is so familiar that it loses its real significance. The power of that silent night would have events that could not be foreseen. Jesus came on a mission—to save you. First John 4:9 (NLT) tells us, “God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.” Jesus is the gift of hope for all those who receive Him. It is easy to forget the real reason for the season. The birth of Christ is the incarnation of God Himself. He stepped out of eternity to become flesh and blood. He is both Man and God at the same time. This is a basic element of our Christian faith. God’s great plan and ultimate gift—our Savior. He is Emmanuel—God with us.
