True friendships are prized possessions. Whether you are young or old, friendships take time and commitment. Every person has a need for a real connection. True friends become like family. They share our joys and sorrows. We do life with them; attend family functions, church, and funerals together; and laugh and cry together. God created us for relationship—with Him first and foremost and then with each other.There are many examples of this type of friendship in the Bible—David and Jonathan, Moses and Aaron, and Elijah and Elisha just to name a few. They impacted each other’s lives. This is only possible when we have the love of God in our hearts—which is the ultimate example of friendship between Jesus and us. We are in the loving and generous hands of God. He made us to be close to people, but more importantly He is waiting for us to have a relationship with Him.We are not alone on the journey of life. As Romans 5:8 (NLT) says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Remember the wonderful truth found in the title of a popular hymn: “What a friend we have in Jesus.”
