Have You Read His Book?

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. –Hebrews 4:12 NIV

Imagine if when a child was born, the baby’s parents sat down and wrote a book for him. In that book they gave examples of problems the child might face in life and solutions to those problems. The book warned of pitfalls he could fall into and how to avoid temptation. In it he is told over and over again, “Fear not.” Yet, the child lived a life of fear about the future. The parents told their child repeatedly how very much they loved him and proved this deep love by sacrificing everything they loved to write this book. But in the end, the child blames his parents for his miserable life. Why? Because he never bothered to read the book.Isn’t this exactly what we do to our heavenly Father? In His Word, He has given us everything we need to live a Spirit-filled, abundant life. He sacrificed everything for us. God has given us promises He will not break, guidance He will not forsake, and a love He will never take away. The answers to our problems are right in front of us, because His Word is alive and sharper than any double-edged sword. Don’t blame God for your life if you haven’t read His Book, the Bible. All the answers are waiting for you.

When trials come, go to His Word.

When things are great, go to His Word. Everything you need for life is in His Word. We can’t blame God for our troubles when we don’t even bother to read the Bible, His instruction manual. Read the directions, repeat.
