If Your Shoes Could Talk

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self…. –Colossians 3:8-10 ESV

If you’re a walker or a runner and your shoes could talk, what would they say? I’m sure when they saw you coming, they’d say, “Oh no, here we go again.” Once your feet are in those shoes, they are completely surrendered to your will. Rain or shine, they’re going wherever you take them. Then, when they’re worn out, you throw them away and get new ones. Shoes live a pretty tough life.We surrender to something or someone every day, and we don’t even realize it. It could be fear, rejection, bitterness, jealousy, or loneliness. They take us places we don’t want to go and through messy circumstances that we can’t avoid. In the end, we’re left worn out, thrown away in despair. However, if we surrender to the One who holds the power of life instead of the power of death, we will find peace. When we surrender our will to His and let go of all the things that are destroying us, we put on Christ. He then leads the way to a better path. Love, joy, forgiveness, and peace are all ours. The old worn out you is replaced by the new you, forever alive in Christ.

prayer focuses

Who calls the shots in your life, the world or God? Begin each day surrendering to His will and resisting the devil.

Father, help me put on the shoes of the Gospel of peace, put on Christ, and put on the full armor of God.
