In His Presence

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. –Psalm 16:11 NIV

When going through a tough time, where do you take refuge? How do you cope with overwhelming feelings of despair or fear? The world offers many solutions, but none of them really work. Some seek refuge in a relationship, a bottle, or drugs. Those things might dull the pain for a short period of time, but they don’t give any lasting relief. There is only one place to find peace—in the “Prince of Peace,” who is Jesus (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that in this world we will have tribulation, but we are not to panic. We’re told to “take heart” because He has already overcome the world. In Psalm 16, David proclaims that in God’s presence we will find joy, and that we are kept safe. In His presence, we are secure. Our boundary lines fall in pleasant places in His presence, and we receive a delightful inheritance that can never rust or decay. He counsels us at night and instructs our hearts which way to go. When we keep our eyes upon Him, we will not be shaken. Forever our hearts will be glad, our tongues rejoice, and our bodies will rest secure. In His presence is always the best place to be.

prayer focuses

Read Psalm 16 and pray for the Holy Spirit’s understanding.

Read it every day for a month, and your life will change for the better.  In His presence you will slay your giants, calm your fears, and win all battles.
