In It But Not Of It

Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. –Philippians 3:19 ESV

Believers are to be in the world but not “of” the world (John 17:14-15). As believers, we are called to be set apart from this world’s beliefs, sinful activities, and worldly appetites. We’re citizens of Heaven, and many of this world want nothing to do with the Way.Yes, we can be “in” the world and enjoy the things God has created, but we’re not to engage ourselves in the ways and desires of this world. The Bible says, “For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world” (1 John 2:16 ESV). Rather, our heart’s desire should be to worship God, delight ourselves in the Bread of Life, and live a Spirit-filled life of influence.Jesus says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (Revelation 3:20 NIV). May we carve out time to sit and dine with the Bread of Life, so He can satisfy our spiritual hunger and be blissful food for our souls.
