Day 31: Shipwrecked Faith

Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. –1 Timothy 1:19 NIV

Why were the castaways so determined to get off of Gilligan’s Island anyway? They had a beautiful beach, bananas, and the Professor’s brains. There were no problems the Skipper couldn’t solve, Gilligan couldn’t mess up, and nothing that the Professor couldn’t invent a solution for. Mr. Howell’s money was worthless. Mary Ann could make coconut crème pie out of nothing, and Ginger kept them entertained. I don’t know about you, but I’d pick being on Gilligan’s Island over going to work any day. Yet in every episode, they longed to go home.Of course, we all know that being shipwrecked for real would never be like their story. The apostle Paul talked about being shipwrecked, and it wasn’t pleasant. We can also experience a type of spiritual shipwreck, one that destroys our faith. When life is more than a three-hour tour, we can get discouraged and give up.We can experience an irretrievable loss of our faith, and we abandon ship and the Father. We forget to reflect on all the ways He’s protected us, delivered us, and calmed the storms in our lives. Don’t jump ship; instead, fight the good fight of faith. He’s at the helm guiding us safely through.

prayer focuses

When you are discouraged, reflect on past victories.

Fight the good fight of faith. See the Father at the helm in the ship of your life, for He’s navigated these waters before. Trust Him.
