Have you ever wondered what it’s like being married to you, being on the other side of your mouth, your tone of voice, your attitude? Ouch! We all see the speck in our spouse’s eye, yet we overlook the beam that is in our own. We point fingers and blame them for our misery, and we pray they’ll change. But do we ever pray that we will change? Do we accept the accountability of our own actions, or is it always their fault? Do we always expect them to cater to our needs, or do we ever put them first? Do we listen to their heart, do we see the pain in their eyes, and do we take the time to listen? There’s an amazing thing that happens when we give our life away to another, when we lose the “me” mentality. It’s only when we lose our life that we truly find it. Giving our life away opens the door to our needs being met in ways nothing else can. Do we want true security, happiness, self-worth, significance, and love? Then we need to give away more than we receive, and listen more than we talk. When we do, we become a pretty awesome person to be married to after all.
