Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. –Colossians 3:9-10 NIV
Paul said, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). Paul wasn’t referring to your outer image. Genesis explains how God created Adam to show that you are body, soul, and spirit. When sin entered the world, the body or flesh took over. It’s only through Christ that His Spirit will come in, set up camp, and redecorate, so you are changed from the inside out. If you’ve ever adopted new eating habits, but allow yourself a “cheat day,” you may look forward to your “cheat.” However, when the day arrives, your body has adjusted and it doesn’t taste or feel as good as you expected. When God’s Spirit lives within you, He “redecorates,” cleaning up the cobwebs, throwing out old curtains, stripping the wall paper, pitching old junk, etc. When you’re changed from the inside out, you begin craving the things of your new self. Now that you realize that the Holy Spirit is living inside of you, removing the old selfish nature, filling you with His nature, His self, you don’t have to believe a lie anymore. The devil has lied to you, convincing you that you will always be bad, fallen, never good enough, and definitely not the righteousness of Christ. But if the Holy Spirit has redecorated you from the inside out, that’s not true. Believe that you are a new creation, redecorated by the Holy Spirit.
Thank God for His Spirit residing within you.
Ask Holy Spirit to remind you to walk in ways that reflect the change that has happened inside you.
