Remember the Baby Bird

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. –James 1:4-5 NIV

Watching a baby bird hatch, we might be tempted to help. We see the tiny chick struggling, but we know that it’s nature’s way of coming into the world. The chick only breaks out of the shell when it’s strong enough. The beak and claws are not fully developed, so it uses an egg tooth that helps the bird break out of the shell. The muscles that help the bird hold up its head are then developed by pecking to escape the shell. If you helped the baby bird, it would never survive.Have you ever been in the middle of a problem and felt like God didn’t care? Have you prayed and asked Him to deliver you from a situation only to find yourself still in the thick of things? Remember the baby bird. If God immediately came to your rescue, would you then build the spiritual muscles you need to survive? In the book of James in the Bible, we’re told to let patience finish its work so that we would be mature, lacking nothing. Your struggle is merely God’s way for you to develop the muscles you need to hold your head high in this world. The struggle will always bring new birth.
